KIM'S STORY:
I first got into business for myself back in 2007, when I founded and ran a small company from my home called Serpentine Hair. A haircare company that maintained a focus on providing sulfate-free products for troubled tresses, the business did remarkably well before I sold it in 2009 in order to pursue other interests. With its success due to a wining combination of great products, sophisticated packaging, sexy scents, honest presentation, and the use of social media, Serpentine Hair was a great way to get my feet wet in the business world. In addition to handling Serpentine Hair’s entire manufacturing and distribution aspects, which included everything from formulating the products to packaging and mailing them around the world, I was also in charge of bookkeeping, marketing, and public relations as well.
Serpentine Hair’s website was the first widespread, publicly available example of my writing, which soon evolved into another side career in copywriting, journalism, public relations, and web editing for other people and businesses. I soon started offering services in cost control, bookkeeping, transcription, and other remote administrative services, and eventually, the responsibilities of running both enterprises became a bit much. Serpentine Hair was then sold (and renamed,) and I began anew with a business called Can-Do Assistant. A virtual assistance enterprise that was something of a catch-all for the above marketing, journalistic, and administrative services, Can-Do Assistant was also quite successful. While quickly acquiring a list of many different clients from coast to coast, I eventually decided to go back and give a nod to my serpentine roots. As a result, Can-Do Assistant was officially rechristened as Medusasbedhead Business Services in early 2010. In 2012 - after a ridiculously awful experience purchasing my fixer-upper Philly home - I obtained a PA real estate license in order to become a tough advocate for my clients, and hopefully prevent that type of thing happening to others. I fell in love with real estate, and have combined my two professional passions of virtual assistance work and real estate in various capacities ever since. Viva la gorgon!
